PPTQ's, how bad can they be?

So, for tonight's post I'm going to hit on a topic that a lot of Magic players care about; The Pro-Tour. Every competitive player dreams to make it to the show, if only once, I know it's something I would die if I was able to achieve. Just give me one shot on the Pro-Tour, just one! Let me see how I can stack up with these guys, and if I'd be able to keep going.

Now, admitadly I have no idea what they had before PPTQ's, so I can talk about which system is better or worse, I can talk about how unfair they seem. I hear stories about 11 man PPTQ's compared to a PPTQ that may have a 100 people in it. Both of the people that won this tournament earned their ticket to the Regional Qualifier.

Then, I heard about totally mismatched RQ's with about the same kinds of differences as some of the PPTQ's, maybe with bigger numbers but it still screamed unfair.

I'm friend with one of my favorite players on Facebook, Chris VanMeter, and even if he has no idea who I am I comment on some of his posts (most recently he ignored by going Jamaican instead of getting a Bahn Mi, and I mean really... how the hell can you turn down a Bahn Mi?). I still read his posts and look up to what he say about Magic. Well, today he made a post a linked a SCG Article written by Mark Nestico on the Select side of the SCG articles (can anyone get me some free Premium? I'd love to read the articles, but I'm po') all about how the PPTQ system is defunct.

What do you guys think? Is the PPTQ system broken? How easy is it to get on the Pro-Tour? Give me a shout and let me hear your thoughts on everything. As someone who intends on attending a PPTQ next month hosted by Gamer Craze, I'm genuinly curious.

Also, how do you think Elves will do in a PPTQ? Lol, okay, don't answer that I might not be running Elves, I don't know what I'm going to run yet for it.
